Comparison with 'Omni-Matrix' Product

Omni-Matrix uses a shaped band to provide the conical shape needed to fit the tooth, it therefore requires a pivoting head to allow it to be used in all 4 quadrants of the mouth. The band normally exits straight out of the end of the casing and has to be rotated to the left or right to be fitted onto the tooth.

Pro-Matrix uses a straight band which exits from the side casing. A 'band Deflector' component is used to impart the required conical shape on the band, the Deflector can be moved up and down to allow the device to be used in all 4 quadrants of the mouth.

Unlike sectional bands, the full circumferential design allows the bands to be used on all types of restoration, however the system requires additional tools which must be sterilised between each use. Removing the band after use can often be quite difficult, requiring a separate cutting tool.

Comparison with Sectional Matrix Bands

Sectional matrix band systems (e.g. Palodent, Garrison, Triodent). consists of a small section of matrix material (covering the restoration area only) which is held in place by a reusable clamp. The clamp is attached using an additional forceps instrument which must be sterilised between each use. The small size of the matrix band means it is often unsuitable for larger restorations. .
